New rule for TallyChallenge starting this week....

JoshM wrote: May 12th, 2015, 9:22 am After ALOT of thought, consideration, and discussions, the admin team of the TallyChallenge series is making an executive decision, effective immediately. The TallyChallenge always has and always will be open to any clean and respectful drivers, regardless of which league they consider "home." On any given night, we will have drivers from 5 or more leagues showing up to put on some fantastic racing. The clean and green racing is what initially caused our car counts to increase, and now the full fields, top talent, and knockout qualifying are making more and more drivers interested in trying it out.

The only downside to this popularity is having to send home drivers who were not able to qualify their way in. From an admin's standpoint, sending drivers home because they weren't fast enough in qualifying is without a doubt the worst feeling we experience with this series. It is not something we take lightly and it is the absolute worst part of our jobs.

In addition to that, we have found ourselves in the very unfortunate position of sending home some of our founding core members and those who consistently donate each and every month to pay our bills. There is no easy way to handle this and any decision we make will have its drawbacks, but a decision has been made.

So, starting this week, the admins will have the option to reserve a couple spots for these drivers who show up and are outside of the Top 30 in points. I want to stress that this is only an option and will not occur every week. It might be for 1 spot, maybe 2 spots, or maybe none at all. The driver(s) will be notified well in advance so there is no confusion on who is in or out. Knockout qualifying will continue as-is, and we will continue to take the top speeds from knockout qualifying until the server is full.

We know this may not be welcome news for those who are new and/or outside the top 30 in points, but we strongly feel this is the "right" thing to do. We do not want to ever have to use this option, but when we do, it will be used very sparingly as we do not want to actively make decisions on who "deserves" a spot and who does not; that's not what this is about. Just exercising this option presents us with another uncomfortable spot to be in where we can be accused of cherry-picking drivers, and we would much prefer to let the racing do that for us. Despite that, we would like to think we have proven ourselves to be fair and unbiased in everything we do, and we will do our best to do so with this as well.

And for the record, we want to be crystal clear that this was a decision the admin team made completely on our own, without any pressure from drivers, admins, or owners. Not a single person has ever complained or ask for a reserved spot. They have too much class, respect the drivers who earn their way into the race each week, and they always put the league's interests ahead of their own. And that is exactly why we feel this possible exemption is needed; you just don't want to lose members like that.
