SEASON 39 INCIDENT REPORTS

Post by KickinAsphalt »

Lap 19 While entering the pits for green flag pit stops, #74 spins #96 and #712 spins #90. Both served drive-through penalties since the yellow did not come out.

Lap 22 #25 moves down the track and gets into #80; #25 served his penalty.

Lap 45 Coming to the exit of the pits, there was a wreck. The cars were 3-wide with a 4th car just starting to accelerate out of his pit stall. Accidents on pit road are typically viewed as a "racin' deal" and this incident falls in line with that. No incidents charged.

Lap 66 At the end of the back-stretch, #14 starts to run out of fuel and is spun from behind entering turn 3. Because the F3 key would have showed him running out of fuel prior to the end of that lap and he took the risk of staying in line anyway, #14 is charged an incident.

1 and parks: #74, #712, #25, #14

Despite the wreck at the end due to fuel shortages, this was a good start to the season. And don't forget next week we are using the updated TR track, which can be found here: http://rollingthundergaming.com/downloa ... RTG-V2.rar

The points were a bit of a mess with false black flags for drivers passing other drivers who ran out of gas on the last lap. The points are now updated.

Lap 1 #088 bumps and spins #128. After looking at this from several different cars/angles, I am calling this a "racin' deal" as the accordion affect was a result of drivers near the front attempting to NOT race over-aggressively at the start of the race. Unfortunately in attempting to give room to each other, it resulted in a bump, then another bump, and then the #088 bumping and spinning #128. #088 was not driving up the tailpipes of the car ahead, so I cannot fault him for not giving room so early in the race. No incidents charged; race was restarted.

Lap 1 #428 blew a motor before turn one; no incident charged and race was restarted again.

Lap 18 #710 moves down the track and gets clipped by #143; #710 served his penalty.

Lap 40 #143 spins upon entering the pits and collects two cars in the process; #143 did not serve a drive-through and is docked a lap in the final standings.

Lap 41 #088 turns down into #10 while entering the pits, collecting multiple cars in a wreck at pit entrance; #088 did not serve his penalty and is docked a lap in the final standings.

Lap 42 The game throws a debris caution; no incidents charged.

Lap 53 As #088 starts warping in the middle lane, #112 hooks #44 in turn three. While #088 did the smart thing in parking (just in case this was his second caution), the replay very clearly shows #088 did not actually warp into anyone, and furthermore, the warp and bumper-hook happened at virtually the exact same time, so the argument can NOT be made that drivers were reacting to #088's warp. #112 is charged w/ the incident and served it correctly.

Lap 61 #65 bumps #39 in turn three. #65 then checks out of the gas which causes #6 to bump him and then hit the wall, slowing him almost 10 mph. That check-up caused a wreck immediately behind #6. Incident on #65 as the rules are clear about bumping in the turns. ALSO, #90 is charged with secondary contact and #44 is issued a warning for reckless driving by failing to let out of the gas and racing through a wreck at full speed; he is not charged w/ an incident as he made no contact, but this is not what we expect from our drivers.

Lap 66 #115 slides up the track slightly on the exit of turn two and #44 and #74; #115 is docked a lap as there was no more laps left to serve his penalty.

Lap 16 There is a large check-up for a car getting into the wall. During that check-up, #33 bumps and spins #96. #33 did slow down, but #96 slowed more. This is a classic "racin' deal"; no incident charged.

Lap 17 #28, #96, and #43 spin during the yellow but did not hit anyone, so no penalties are charged. For future reference, if a driver spins out, you are not obligated to wait for him. Simply continue on and if you get a black flag for pitting, be sure to notify an admin and explain the reason for the black flag was the car ahead of you spun out. We will clear those black flags.

Lap 17 #143 bumps and spins #712 on pit road. #143 was in the middle (merge) lane because he had a car to his outside, so he is not charged an incident (if #143 did NOT have a car to his right-hand side, then he WOULD have been charged for causing a wreck while driving in the merge lane).

Lap 24 #71 clips the apron in turn 1 and slides up the track. As he moves back down into line, #25 bumps and spins him from behind. #25 DID slow down and try to avoid contact, so he is not charged. Incident on #71. ALSO, #71 passed #115 while coming back to the caution. #115 DID get back around #71 when #71 served his penalty, so no further action is needed.

Lap 46 #4 bumps #6 to start an accident. #6 was coming out of the pits and was in the low lane. #4 was in the middle lane. #33 was outside of #4 and moved down slightly which prompted #4 to move to the left. As that happened, #4 and #6 made contact. This is being called a "racin' deal" since #4 was trying to give room to the car to his outside, #33 DID give enough room to both drivers, and #6 was low enough to not be an obstacle.

Lap 46 Coming to the yellow flag, several cars decide to pit instead since they are out of fuel. This causes the cars behind them to check up and a couple cars get into each other. Again, if a car spins, pits, or slows WAY more than is necessary, you are NOT required to slow for them.

Lap 57 #2 bumps and spins #43; #2 did not serve a penalty and is docked a lap.

Lap 55 #6 moves down slightly on #96 and gets spun; #6 served his penalty.

Lap 61 #088 gives a bump to #77 nearing the end of the back-stretch. The bump sends #77 into #103 who momentarily loses control of his car. In the process of saving his car, #103 bumps and spins #128. Incident charged to #088. #088 was on a 1-and-park it but continued to race, so his scoring is stopped on this lap and he is parked for next week. The contact between #088 and #44 was irrelevant as it had no effect on the wreck itself.

We ALMOST had a caution free race. Great job everyone and practice those pit stops! Next week we go back to Talladega_2015_BP. And lastly, we begin the Bracket Series next week! The brackets can be viewed here: http://challonge.com/MSR39

Lap 14 #14 gets into #07 to cause a wreck; #14 served his penalty. ALSO, #33 checks up for the wreck and is hit from behind by #6, but because #33 did not get any damage and did not spin, this is NOT considered a secondary incident.

Lap 18 Several cars play bumper-tag during stop-and-go checkups throughout the entire lap. While this deserves a penalty for poor driving and not paying good enough attention to your surroundings, no incidents are charged as nobody was damaged through all of this.

Lap 20 #143 gets into #71 to cause a wreck; #143 served his penalty.

Lap 41 #96 and #10 make contact and #96 spins. After review, it was determined the #96 had moved up into the lane already occupied by #10. Incident charged to #96 and he served his penalty. Although they were racing each other in the Bracket Series, this incident has no bearing on the result of that bracket since #10 was not damaged in the incident.

Lap 46 Gas, Brake, and then crashing on the restart. Some guys at the front were lined up incorrectly due to a lapped car near the front of the field, and people were heavy on the gas and then immediately heavy on the brakes, which is the EXACT opposite thing we said to do during the Driver's Meeting for this very race. It's one thing to crash while racing 3-wide at 200 mph, but it's embarrassing for everyone to have a pile-up under yellow at 70 mph. Once again, this was a mess from the front to the back of the field. Do not go 80 mph and then slam the brakes! Gradually increase your speed a few mph if you need to catch up, and ease out of the gas (don't slam the brakes) when you need to slow. If the whole field did this, we wouldn't have carnage on restarts anymore. No incidents charged, but we will be paying more close attention to restarts to see who cannot seem to figure out how to keep a steady speed coming to the green flag and restarts.

Lap 46 cont'd #2 passed #25 and #67 after the yellow came out. As I discussed last week, we will NOT penalize drivers who pass cars that don't keep their speed up on the track. I appreciate #25 for slowing to stay in the correct position behind #67 (who slowed down under 100 mph on the backstretch), but I want to remind people again that we will NOT penalize a driver who passes someone who isn't keeping pace for whatever reason. #2 is not docked any positions as he was simply keeping pace with the field.

Lap 64 #18 and #77 make contact and #77 wrecks. Because #77 crossed the dashed lines that separate the low and middle lane, this is considered his incident by default (#77 parked, so penalty is considered served). The fact that #18 slid up a little is irrelevant as he was still under the dashed lines when contact was made. (For the record, this logic goes out the window if there is 4-wide racing since there are not enough dashed lines to determine all the lanes being used at that time).

A HUGE thanks to the drivers who served their penalties correctly. It makes our jobs MUCH easier not having to re-sort the finishing order of a 30+ car field each week!

Lap 19 #8 starts to slow to come into the pits but is still on the racing surface when he gets hit from behind and a wreck ensues. This appears to be a situation where a guy was trying to pit and tried to slow up in turn 3 to get low but had a car behind him that prevented that, and the car behind appears to have not been aware that #8 had declared he was pitting. While this looks to me like bad luck and bad timing that results in a "racin' deal", the rules are clear and I have to put this incident on #8 who served his penalty.

Lap 26 #112 gets into #44 during a check-up. While #112 is charged for this incident, the problem is late reactions or over-reactions of the cars ahead of the eventual wreck. We NEED to do a better job anticipating and communicating check-ups. In a 30+ car field, everything you do is amplified and has a much bigger impact due to the size of the field.

Lap 35 #39 loses a motor which causes a wreck. Per the rules, mechanical failures (besides mis-shifting to blow your motor) are not counted as incidents.

Lap 39 #75 gets into #77 during a check-up. #75 is charged with the incident, but this is another example where we need to do a better job communicating AND anticipating these check-ups.

Lap 40 The yellow came out barely before the leader got to the S/F line. Because of that, the pacecar was behind the field entering turn 1. #74 (the leader) started to slow down in turn 1 but #2 was still in the gas, and they got into each other. While we would prefer to see the leader stay in the gas until exiting turn 2, I cannot blame #74 nor #2 for this incident as #2 was doing the right thing and #74 slowed minimally upon entering the turn. Again, this is another situation where communication could prevent a wreck.

Lap 48 Coming off of turn 2, #71 slides up from the low to middle lane, causing #14 to move to the right. #14 makes a slight movement back and hooks #71. While #14 should have been able to avoid this contact, the incident is charged to #71 for drifting into someone else's lane and staying there until he is wrecked.

Lap 59 #2 bumps and spins #14 coming out of turn 4; the yellow did not come out so #2 did a drive-through.

This race was stunk. We only had 31 cars and we still managed to make it suck. We're better drivers than this! Some people need to start paying more attention in the race and learn how to anticipate better. If you race like you're assuming everyone in the whole field will drive a perfect race and you only react when something goes bad, then you will find yourself the victim of, and cause of, many wrecks. Of course it's impossible to predict a wreck or position yourself to avoid all of them, but come on, I watch these replays every week and too many drivers are barely paying attention behind the wheel and drive themselves directly into a soon-to-be disaster.

Lap 11 #74 gives a bad bump to #5 and starts a wreck; #74 served his penalty.

Lap 15 While still under yellow, #74 has a computer problem and his screen goes to his desktop. As this happens, he hits and spins #5. After reviewing the Replay Analyzer, it was determined that neither driver received damage. Because of this, and because it did not damage anyone else or cause any major issues, this is NOT considered an incident.

Lap 29 #33 loses a motor which causes a wreck. Per the rules, mechanical failures (besides mis-shifting to blow your motor) are not counted as incidents.

Lap 42 #2 slips up the track and clips #112; #2 parked as he was already on a 1-and-park.

Lap 47 #112 gets into the back of #143 in turn one and a wreck occurs. After a long review, I have to put this on #80. #143 had to check up to avoid clipping #80, who had almost all of his car in the inside lane. This check-up resulted in #112 spinning the #143 car. #80 did not serve his penalty and is docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 65 #09 goes under #65 in turn one. They make contact, and #65 makes the save of the season, so there is no incident to be dealt with. I reviewed this contact to check for over-aggressive driving, and because #09 was able to make the move without forcing #65 out of his groove or move him up the track, by that criteria, I can't call this over-aggressive driving, but it is as close as it can get. We want to encourage hard racing, and that involves aggressiveness, but we do try to make a point of it when we feel the racing is OVER-aggressive. While there is no incident or penalty here, I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention again that drivers will race each other based on how others race them. If you are more than likely to cut someone a break, other drivers will respect that and will do the same for you. But if you are all-take and no-give, expect to be raced that way. (Again, this isn't a knock on #09 as he is a clean and respectful driver, but this move gave me a good opportunity to cover that topic again).

GREAT job by the drivers in this race! We ran the final 16 laps caution-free, and we finished 4-wide with the top 24 cars within a second of the race winner!

Lap 1 #428 loses 4th gear and gets wrecked. No incident charged as this was a mechanical failure and the race was restarted.

Lap 11 #72 bumps and spins #96; #72 served his penalty.

Lap 46 #103 makes a lane change that causes a check-up and wreck behind him; #103 served his penalty.

Lap 55 #71 bumps #14 and #71 spins. This was initially caused by a check-up at the front of the field. No incidents charged.

Lap 66 #65 bumps #103 and causes a wreck before S/F line. Because this wreck changed the finishing order, the incident is charged to #65 (if no positions had been affected, no incident would have been charged).

A pretty good race overall, but the bumping and pushing in the turns NEEDS TO STOP. This is very clear in the rules. Obviously it is bound to happen from time to time with checkups and hard racing, but too many drivers are riding the bumpers of the cars in front of them throughout the turns and tri-oval, and when the inevitable checkup happens, there is not enough time for people to react before they start bumping each other and causing huge checkups behind them. On restrictor plate tracks, every driver is responsible for the car he is following/pushing, the cars next to him in the other lanes, and the cars following him.
Any move you make will have a DIRECT impact on every one of those cars. If you are riding too close to someone and bump them (especially in the turns), you are causing problems for EVERYONE behind you who has to dump out of the gas or shoot to the apron to avoid the cars who slowed for your mistake. Again, bumps and mistakes will happen due to the way restrictor plate racing is and because of the high level of drivers we have, but we don't need to make the situation even worse by driving over our heads.

Lap 20 #25 and #65 come into the pits and take each other out. Since both drivers were over 20 mph over the speed limit, no yellow came out, and nobody else was involved, there is no incident to call on either driver.

Lap 22 #25 misses the pit entrance and the game throws a caution after he comes onto the track at a low speed. #25 retired.

Lap 65 It did not bring out the yellow, but #128 starts to run out of gas in turn 3 and gets turned by #112. #112 attempted to avoid contact but #128 slowed over 10 mph before getting turned. No incident charged to #112.

Lap 20 #095 blows a motor; no incident charged.

Lap 26 #80 blows a motor; no incident charged.

Lap 57 #28 gets into #115 in the tri-oval to bring out a caution. #28 took the Lucky Dog, but because he was the cause of the incident, he wasn't eligible. The scoring has been updated to remove that lap plus issue a 1 lap penalty for failure to serve/claim the incident.
