SEASON 13 INCIDENT REPORTS

Post by KickinAsphalt »

JoshM wrote: May 10th, 2015, 7:30 pm RACE 1 5/7/15

LAP 10 There is a checkup in the low lane entering turn 3. A number of cars bump into each other, eventually with the #10 bumping and spinning #07. Due to the fact this checkup happened well ahead and resulted in over a 20mph drop in speed, I cannot blame #10 for failing to slow in time. This incident is being called a "racin' deal." No incident charged to any driver.

Lap 22 #96 bumps and spins #165, but the origin of this incident was when #16 gave a slight bump to #115 entering the turn and checked up, causing the accordion affect behind them. Incident on #16 who correctly served his penalty.

Lap 44 #73 asked for a black flag to be cleared. After reviewing the circumstances of this black flag, the admins determined this was, in fact, a valid black flag. Per the rules, this is a 2 lap penalty which will be added in the final standings.

Lap 49 #07 bumps and spins #121. #07 served his penalty.

Lap 55 #095 gives a bad bump to #003, sending #003 spinning into the infield. No yellow came out for this incident, so this is a drive-through penalty. #095 did not serve the penalty and is docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 62 #99 bumps #103, bringing out the yellow. #99 was flipped on his roof during the incident and lost a lap as a result, so this is considered penalty served.

Lap 62 After getting collected in the wreck, #007 makes a move to turn around while #96 and #07 are racing back. Both cars run into #007, causing a secondary wreck. Per the rules, the incident is charged to #007. While #96 and #07 did make contact at a high rate of speed, they positioned their cars in a way they would have made it through if not for the car that turned into their path. I do want to publicly acknowledge and thank #108 Sixpack for slowing enough to avoid both the initial wreck and the secondary wreck as well. If anyone wants to see how to drive through a wreck properly, please watch the replay.

DNQs for next week are: #015, #088, and #51
1 and parks: none

Penalties: Reckless driving on #00 and #5 for their contact under caution on Lap 50. This is the first penalty, therefore it is only a warning. The next penalty for this would be a 1 lap penalty, per the rules.

After 5 incidents, those drivers will be on a 1-and-park for the remainder of the season:
One incident- #07, #007, #16, #095, #99
Two incidents-
Three incidents-
Four incidents-
Five incidents-

Lap 1 (initial start) #428 blows a gear and spins. This is considered a mechanical failure; no incident charged. The race was re-started due to this caution.

Lap 1 #25 into #007. #25 served his penalty.

Lap 20 #59 bumps #003. While #59 moved up the track slightly. #003 had almost all of his car inside the dotted lines of the lowest groove, giving #59 little room for error. Per the rules, if a wreck happens because a driver is being crowded, the incident is likely to go on the driver that is doing the crowding, whether it is intentional or not. Incident on #003 who served his penalty.

Lap 34 #428 into #99. This was created by not one, but TWO checkups in the bottom lane. At some point, contact was inevitable. This was a tough call, but no incident charged on #428 as he had so little time to react.

Lap 41 #20 gets into #2 while entering pit road; #20 served his penalty.

Lap 51 #96 bumps and spins #003; #96 served his penalty.

Lap 55 #007 bumps and spins #99 under caution; #007 served his penalty.

Lap 66 There is contact near the front and #129 loses a few mph as a result. A group of cars is already 4-wide when they catch #129 in turn 4. As they attempt to go 5-wide to pass the #129, #088 gets into #2. #088 kept his car on the bottom groove and ran out of space, so I cannot pin this incident on him. After a LONG review from multiple angles, I am forced to call this a 'racin' deal' as I cannot call this incident on any one driver. Each driver had to decide to either let up to avoid a wreck or keep their foot in it and hope to make it through. In the end they all stayed in the gas and all got caught up in the wreck.

CONGRATS TO GEORGE HART ON HIS FIRST TALLYCHALLENGE WIN!!!

DNQs for next week are: #128, #112, #83
1 and parks: none

Penalties: #08 is given an over-aggressive penalty for his driving on Lap 66. He threw not one, but two blocks on #017, nearly putting him into the wall. While blocking is legal, this was deemed to be excessive and could have easily caused a huge wreck at the front of the field. Since is the first occurance, it is only a warning. The next occurrance is to be scored in last place in the final standings, per the MSR rules.

After 5 incidents, those drivers will be on a 1-and-park for the remainder of the season:
One incident- #003, #07, #16, #20, #25, #095, #96, #99
Two incidents- #007

Lap 4 #083 Dave Little spins the #64 in the corner causing a multi-car incident. #083 correctly served his penalty stop.

Lap 16 #009 JR Deal turns down from the high lane abruptly making contact with the #83. While trying to save it, the #83 makes contact with the #128 causing himself and the #128 to spin into the infield. Although this did not bring out a caution, this will still be charged as an incident on the #009 for initiating the contact. The #009 did not serve his penalty and will be scored -1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 18 The #083 Dave Little appears to attempt to switch lanes from the middle lane to the low lane. He misjudges the speed of the low lane which appears to be checking up at the time causing the #083 to spin the #99 and others. The #083 parked himself as this was his second incident.

Lap 34 #910 Jamie Tedder slides up making contact with the wall which the throws his car down the track into the #069. The #910 parked himself.

Lap 48 #5 David Day while going a lap down attempts to go to the apron to give oncoming leaders the whole track and not impede their progress. While this was a sportsman like move, unfortunately he loses control causing the #069 to get into him. This in turn caused a huge multi-car incident. The #5 correctly served his penalty stop.

Lap 58 #83 Rob Larkin is in a four wide situation and drifts down into the #69 sending him high into the #20. #83 retired.

Lap #58 #73 Ron Larkin Jr. attempts to throw a late block on the #128. The #128 attempts to check up but really has no options because he is being pushed by two other cars. The incident will be charged on the #73 who caused the wreck while attempting to block. The #73 did not serve his penalty and will be scored -1 lap in the final standings.

DNQs for next week are: #08, #33, #075, and #083
1 and parks: #083 Dave Little

Penalties: The #083 Dave little will be on a 1 and park for causing two cautions in this race.

After 5 incidents, those drivers will be on a 1-and-park for the remainder of the season:
One incident- #003, #07, #16, #20, #25, #83, #095, #96, #99, #009, #910, #5, #73

Lap 7 #428 cuts across the nose of #51 and causes a wreck. #428 served his penalty.

Lap 8 #08 spins #075 on pit road while under caution. #08 was not on the right side of the pit lane and was driving through a couple pit boxes at the time of contact. Due to these facts, it is obvious this should have been avoidable contact. Incident charged to #08. He did not serve a penalty and is docked 1 lap in the final standings. UPDATE: this call was protested and after a review from the Replay Committee, this call has been overturned to a "racin' deal" as the Committee was not able to come to a 2-to-1 majority on the call.

Lap 45 Coming off of turn 2, #34 moves from the low line to the middle line in front of #83. #83 is a couple mph faster than #34; #83 is also getting pushed by #196. We are calling this on #34 as #83 could not let off without risk of being spun out himself. #34 parked.

Lap 57 Going down the backstretch, #20 moves from the low to middle lane. #18 (the next position behind #20) makes a quick move from the high line to middle line to draft #20. #73 attempts to follow #18's move, but he gets into the quarter panel of #18, causing an incident. #73 did not serve his penalty and is docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 57 #89 is charged w/ racing through an incident and causing a secondary incident. #89 parked.

Lap 63 #75 attempts to pass #23, but gets his tires under the yellow line and spins #23 when contact is made. #75 did not serve his penalty and is docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 63 #007 slides up and spins #128 exiting turn 2. #007 correctly served his penalty.

DNQs for next week are: #015, #088, #20, and #083
1 and parks: #083 Dave Little

Lap 21 #00 Jason Scheck warp out causing the caution. The #00 correctly served his penalty.

Lap 25 #044 Cory Deal starts to make a move high from the middle lane, then cuts back down hitting the #77 causing a multi-car incident. The #044 correctly served his penalty.

Lap 44 #12 Gary Mingus while attempting to make a green flag pit stop slows abruptly while he was still on the racing surface causing the #046 to hit him. The #12 correctly served his penalty.

Lap 46 #009 JR Deal spins the #046 while exiting pit road causing the #046 to flip over. Incidents on pit road will be reviewed on request and may result in a penalty. The #009 did not serve a penalty stop and will be penalized post race.

Lap 62 #73 Ron Larkin Jr. spins the #044 entering turn 3 causing a multi-car incident. The #73 did not serve a penalty stop and will be penalized post race.

Other post race penalties:
Over Aggressive Driving- On lap 58, #196 Stevie Minson pulls up in front of a group of cars intentionally impeding their progress. This will be a warning. Aby future actions of this type will result in harsher penalties!!

Racing into a wreck- The #08 Chris Robbins, #25 Brian Bell, and the #33 Tony Fox will be penalized 1 lap in the final standings for failing to adequately reduce their speed to avoid contact with other vehicles during a wreck.

All in all the race wasn't too bad guys. I really hate seeing guys penalized at the end of these races when points are so important. It even sucks more though to see guys who have been in the server for an hour and a half get tore up. If anyone would like to see a picture perfect way to negotiate their way through a wreck, watch the #23 and the #075. Alot of cars got destroyed in that final wreck. Let's try and do better next week!!

DNQs for next week are: #088, #5, and #89

Lap 1 #428 Marc Paglia hits the #102. As a result of this, the race was restarted but the #428 started the race with 1 incident.

Lap 14 #82 Tony Brent appears to accidentally shift into neutral on the backstretch causing a multi-car incident. #82 correctly served his penalty.

Lap 29 #121 Steve Looney hits the wall exiting turn 4 throwing him back into #96 causing an incident. #121 correctly served his penalty.

Lap 59 #89 Paul Wolf attempts to block the high line being led by the #112. This was a close call that was looked at by multiple admins, but it was deterimined the incident was the result of the #89 trying to block the #112. The #89 did not serve his penalty stop and will be scored -1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 63 Coming to the restart #007 Andre Fiorini fails to maintain pace speed coming to the green causing an incident. #007 parked.

Lap 65 After the drivers had yaken the caution and started to slow down, #92, #12, and #121 got together. This will be scored as a "racin deal" because no one driver clearly did anything wrong.

Penalties: #096 Ricky LaDuke will be penalized for racing into a wreck on lap 65. He will be scored -1 lap in the final finishing order.

The #129 Chris Hart Jr. will be given a warning for unsportsman like actions. After the race he intentionally maneuvered around other drivers to hit someone in an act of displeasure. If a driver has a problem with another driver he needs to bring it to an admins attention. Any further actions of this nature will result in a suspension.

Lap 1 After a checkup on the high side in the tri-oval, #12 bumps #96. #12 was in the process of slowing already before the contact was made, and after contact, he moved to the high side to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. At the same time, #129 goes high to avoid the checkup and bumps #12, starting a wreck. After a long review, we felt this had to be called a "racin' deal" as the checkup was big and they made great attempts to avoid contact. Per MSR rules, a "racin' deal" means no driver is charged with an incident, nor is either driver required to serve any kind of penalty. THE RACE WAS RESTARTED, again, per the rules.

Lap 5 #102 into #007. #102 parked.

Lap 11 While 4-wide, #103 gets into #12, bringing out the caution. This was a tough call but we put it on #103 because he rode the middle lane with 2 cars to his outside (he had room to go down another lane; by not doing so, it invited #22 to make it 4-wide w/ the entire low line wide open) and because he appeared to move the most to cause the contact. #103 served his penalty.

Lap 40 #36 bumper-hooks off of #128. #36 retired.

Lap 40 #112 is charged an incident for failure to properly slow for a wreck and cause damage to another car. We made this call because at the point he began to slow, the 2 cars directly ahead had already slowed 40 mph. There was some after that, but the drivers involved were all under 100 mph, cars were still spinning, and the track was mostly blocked. We felt this contact was NOT due to a failure to properly slow, so no further incidents are given.

Lap 47 #129 into #08. The yellow did not come out, but this is still a penalty. When #129 went to pit road to serve his penalty, he spun and damaged his car. He pitted to replace his flat-spotted tires and fix damage instead of a drive-through. Because this added an approximate 40 seconds on to what a drive-through penalty would have been, we will consider this as penalty served.

Lap 61 While on pit road, #2 turns for his pit stall and is spun by #08 who was in the middle lane at the time. Per the rules, "All drivers are expected to stay on the right-hand side of pit road until you turn into/out of your pit stall." While the rule does not absolutely require you to stay to the far right, it is assumed drivers will stay as far right as possible to avoid incidents such as this. Three cars who pitted from the lead pack were directly affected by this, and the contact was made by a car 1 lap down. Because of these facts, we feel putting an incident on #08 is the correct call. #08 did not serve a drive-through and is docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 64 Coming through the tri-oval, #18 bumps #088. #59 then bumps and spins #18, bringing out a caution. While reviewing this incident, we noticed the #103 was alone on the low side entering the tri-oval with multiple cars passing him on the high side. By the middle of the tri-oval, five cars changed lanes to the low side behind #103, who was now 5mph slower than the cars now behind him. Exiting the tri-oval, the resulting check-up caused the 4th and 5th drivers in line to go back to the high side to avoid contact with the cars who had to quickly slow in front of them. After a very long review from many different admins, we could not pin the incident on a particular driver, and those involved made every attempt to avoid contact with the cars in front of them. Due to this fact, I feel the correct call once again is a "racin' deal." While we don't not like to call any incident a "racin' deal" and make our best attempt to properly assign blame, we also do not want to improperly make a call we don't truly agree with just to try and appease anyone.

Lap 66 Just after taking the white and checkers, #021 makes a sudden move left and into #89, causing a 4-car wreck. Regardless of the lap a wreck occurs on, we are forced to review it and make a call. While #196 moved low, he did not make any contact with #021 that would have caused the sudden direction charge of #021's car. Per the rules, this is a 1 lap penalty.

Lap 66 #96 loses control of his car and hits #066 and turns his car over. Again, regardless of the lap, we are required to call this as an incident and assess a 1 lap penalty.

There was also a very, VERY long conversation about who won the race. #89 got 2 tires on the tri-oval apron, was underneath the yellow when he crossed the finish line, and got wrecked at the beginning of the final lap. Reviewing that race to the finish, #89 had a nose inside #021 in the tri-oval. He got his 2 tires on the apron as #021 moved down a bit in the tri-oval, so we felt the tires on the apron were justified to avoid a wreck. As for the yellow line, #89 exited the tri-oval and drove STRAIGHT towards the finish line. The yellow line in that section moves out a full extra lane, which means #89 did NOT drive down the track to go underneath it. And as they approached that line, there was not enough room for #89 to move above it without making contact w/ #021, so again, we do not consider this a penalty.

As for the wreck, at the point of contact, all of those drivers had officially taken the yellow. Just like a wreck under a yellow at any other point in the race, the wrecked/spun driver is allowed to go back and re-gain his position while the other driver serves a penalty for it.

This brings us to the "Wrecks in the tri-oval at the end of the race mean the order is determined by how the field merges back on to the track" rule. First off, this incident occurred AFTER the S/F line, and with the yellow already out. Had this been a green flag run that just turned yellow, then #89 WOULD have his finishing position determined by how he merged. And lastly, if we did apply this rule in the exact same manner as the prior incidents in the tri-oval area, it would mean 2nd place could simply spin the leader coming across the line to deny him the win. While that is intentional wrecking and would be grounds for a ban from RTR/MSR, the opportunity for a driver to use this against a winner could be tough, if not impossible to prove. And while we would not expect this to ever happen, the potential would undoubtedly be there and we do not want to open ourselves up to such potential dirty racing.

After all of that hot mess, #89 keeps the win.

We do realize several of these calls carry heavy penalties, are unique/controversial, and will cause some conversation. If you disagree with a call against you, PLEASE come to an admin and do not post rants in the forums, Facebook, etc. We spent an incredible amount of time tonight combing through this replay and a group of owners/admins did their best to make the right calls based on our interpretations of the rules the drivers have voted in. If you do not think we called an incident correctly, simply make a new thread in the TallyChallenge section of the forums and provide a clip of your replay stating you want to protest that call (drivers have until midnight Sunday into Monday to file a protest). We don't need any negative comments or forum fights. And lastly, we did address the post-race teamspeak drama and have spoken to the drivers involved. As we say during the drivers meetings, keep negative comments to yourself and bring them to an admin in private. We do not want to park or suspend anyone, but we won't let this series turn into a childish, disrespectful circus either.

DNQs for next week are: #89, #196, and #103

Lap 19 During green flag pit stops, cars fanned out 3 and 4 wide entering the pits (which is smart and legal under green) and there was contact on pit road as drivers tried to get organized and get into their pit stalls. No drivers did anything wrong during this incident, so this will go down as a "racin' deal." No penalty for the drivers involved.

Lap 31 #08 blows a motor; no penalty charged.

Lap 37 #41 gives a bad bump to #095 and causes a wreck. #41 did not serve his penalty and is docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 52 #28 into #007. #28 served his penalty.

Lap 64 #28 checks up and gets spun by #129. Incident is charged to BOTH drivers, so #28's scoring is stopped on this lap (he we gone back green and #28 chose not to retire, he would have been suspeded for one race, but this wreck essentially finished the race instead). #28 attempted to do the right thing checking up to let the lead lap cars fight it out, but he slowed abruptly, and then moved up a half lane. Had he committed to one lane, he would not have been charged, but riding both lanes made it tougher for #129 to choose the correct lane to use to get around #28. Despite that, #129 DID appear to have enough space ahead of him to avoid #28, despite the line he was riding. Both cars were a lap down so I can't fault them for racing each other, but being a lap down with 3 laps to go means this is an incident that just should not have happened.

Lap 65 After crossing the S/F line, #51 hooks #96. After a review from multiple admins, this was determined to be a "racin' deal" as no driver made any abupt movements to cause this incident, and both cars that spun were able to get their spots back (had we been under a green flag up to this point, then their spots would have been determined by how they merged and got up to speed). #51 had 2 cars behind him that were both pushing each other into him, so he couldn't avoid #96 by simply letting off. Because of these facts, no incident is charged to any driver.

DNQs for next week are: #128, #088, #00, #083, and #28
1 and parks: #083 and #28

Penalties: #28 is given a Reckless Driving penalty for his wreck with #007. #28 was a lap down and crashed a lead lap car near the end of the race while racing them. There were no other lap down cars in the area, so this was an incident that never should have happened. The first penalty for this is a warning. If this were to happen again, the next penalty is a 1 race suspension.

After 5 incidents, those drivers will be on a 1-and-park for the remainder of the season:
One incident- #00, #003, #5, #07, #08, #12, #16, #20, #021, #25, #34, #36, #41, #044, #75, #82, #83, #89, #095, #99, #102, #103, #112, #121, #129, #910
Two incidents- #009 #28, #083, #96, #428
Three incidents- #73

Lap 18 #129 Chris Hart Jr. pushes up into the #075 causing a multi-car incident. #129 retired.

Lap 25 #99 Doug Woolley spins the #00 causing a multi-car incident. Although there was a checkup further ahead, the #99 should have been able to manage his speed to avoid contact. The #99 correctly served his penalty.

Lap 46 While merging back onto the race surface, #066 Big George Hart slides up into the #96 causing a multi-car incident. #066 retired.

Lap 48 While exiting the pits, the #99 Doug Woolley hits the #12 causing multiple cars to spin. This is considered an incident under caution. Being that this is the second incident on the #99 his scoring will be stopped on this lap. Per MSR rules, if you cause 2 incidents and fail to park, you will be suspended the following week. The #99 did NOT park himself and will have to sit out 7/09/15.

Lap 58 While in a four wide situation, #96 Dave Robbins pushes up into the #128 causing an incident. #96 did NOT serve a penalty stop and will be docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 58 #428 Marc Paglia will be charged with "racing into a wreck" for failing to reduce his speed to avoid contact. #428 did NOT serve his penalty stop and will be docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 63 #046 Mike Scott attempts to move up to block the #08. The #046 made his move a bit too late for the #08 to slow his momentum as he was getting pushed by the #196. Incident on #046. As this caution ended the race, the #046 will be moved to the end of the lead lap cars.

Lap 63 After the initial incident, #088 Tim Noftsker will be penalized for failing to reduce speed to avoid contact and will be move to the end of the lead lap cars in the final standings.

Lap 4 #428 bumper-hooks #07. #428 correctly served his penalty.

Lap 4 #70 is charged with racing into a wreck and causing damage. He did not serve his penalty and is docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 5 #20 stops on pit road and drives in reverse after missing his pit box. This results in an accident on pit road and a black flag for a driver that was knocked into the grass, so #20 is charged w/ an incident. He did not serve his penalty and is docked 1 lap in the final standings.

Lap 30 #93 spins #70. #93 retired.

Lap 31 #20 comes to a nearly-complete stop in the right lane on pit road after missing his pit stall, and another incident occurs as a result. #20 is charged w/ his second incident and his scoring is stopped on this lap. #20 is also parked next week as he did not retire after the second incident.UPDATE: I reviewed this incident again and realize my initial call was incorrect. The #20 came in on the right-hand side as is expected, but he had another car to his left in the middle/merge lane, so he could not use that lane to slow and enter his pit stall. #20 started in the 41st place, so he was immediately blocked to enter his pit box. Because of that, I have to consider this a racin' deal as it was a green flag pit stop. #20 parked on lap 50, so that is where his scoring will be placed. He is NOT suspended for next week's race, but the Reckless Driving penalty still stands for the earlier incident on pit road.

Lap 39 While 4-wide, #18 slides up slightly on the exit of the turn and clips #89. #18 correctly served his penalty.

Lap 49 #96 bumps and spins #66. #96 correctly served his penalty.

Lap 52 There were multiple drivers who jumped out of line prior to the S/F on the restart. After review, none of the drivers are charged for jumping the start as the front row had a large fluctuation in speed through the tri-oval and coming to the green, causing the rest of the field to speed up and then check-up. This caused havoc in the back of the field and some drivers made evasive moves, which is legal in a situation like this.
