TallyChase points structure starting Week 51

JoshM wrote: November 10th, 2020, 9:36 pm I will be resetting the points tonight for the Season 51 TallyChase playoffs. Below is how the system is set up. If drivers have opinions on changes they want to see in the future, we can have that discussion in the offseason.

For Season 51, there are TWO ways to make the playoffs:
1) Finish in the top 10 in points at the conclusion of the regular season, OR
2) Finish in the top 20 in points at the conclusion of the regular season AND win a race.

The playoffs will be 5 weeks. After the second playoff race, we will cut the field down to 8 drivers. After the fourth playoff race, we will cut the field down to 4 drivers. In the 5th race/final race, the highest finisher of those 4 drivers wins the championship.

Any playoff driver that wins a playoff race will advance to the next round. When the cut-off races take place, we will move race winners first, and then go by points after that. So for example, if a playoff driver wins playoff race #1 and then has a bad race #2 and ends up last in points, he will STILL move to the next round of the playoffs, replacing the driver who finished 8th in points after those two races.

Regarding bonus points, the regular season champion will receive 3 bonus points in the first round and 2 bonus points in the second round. Also, each regular season win will give a driver 3 bonus points in the first round and 2 bonus points in the second round. Bonus points for wins in the playoffs are available as well in round 1. Any driver winning in the second round of the playoffs advances to the championship race.

In addition to points for wins, bonus points are available for points position. In the first round of the playoffs, there will be 3 bonus points per regular season points position. NOT including any bonus points, the regular season champion would have 30 points, the regular season runner-up would have 27 points, and so on.

FOR SEASON 51, we had 10 drivers make the Chase. The regular season points are below:
Driver Points Behind
1 Joe DiSpirito 407 0
2 Chuck McClure 359 -48
3 Bob Seminara 353 -54
4 Jessica Shelton 345 -62
5 Grant Wessley 334 -73
6 Dante Ricci 320 -87
7 Josh Metallic 318 -89
8 Marc Paglia 316 -91
9 Bernie Mobbs 312 -95
10 Billy Ellisor 301 -106

And after bonus points, here is how they will start the playoffs:
1 Joe DiSpirito 33 (30 plus 3 for regular season points champion; no wins)
2 Chuck McClure 27 (27 for second in points; no wins)
3 Bob Seminara 30 (24 for third in points plus 6 points for TWO wins)
4 Jessica Shelton 21 (21 for fourth in points; no wins)
5 Grant Wessley 24 (18 for fifth in points plus 6 points for TWO wins)
6 Dante Ricci 21 (15 for sixth in points plus 6 points for TWO wins)
7 Josh Metallic 12 (12 for seventh in points; no wins)
8 Marc Paglia 9 (9 for eighth in points; no wins)
9 Bernie Mobbs 9 (6 for ninth in points plus 3 points for ONE win)
10 Billy Ellisor 3 (3 for tenth in points; no wins)

When we get to the second round of the playoffs, we will again reset the points, giving 2 points per points positions and 2 points per win. The regular season champion will also have 2 bonus points for this round.

Hopefully this makes sense. If not, get with me this week and I can try to explain it in more detail.
