TallyChase points for Season 56

Post by JoshM »

The TallyChase points have been updated. Below is an explanation:

Drivers can make the playoffs by doing either of the following:
1) Finish in the top 10 in points at the conclusion of the regular season, OR
2) Finish in the top 20 in points at the conclusion of the regular season AND win a race.

The playoffs will be 5 weeks with 2 cut-off races and a championship race. After the second playoff race, we will cut the field down to 8 drivers. After the fourth playoff race, we will cut the field down to 4 drivers. In the 5th race/final race, the highest finisher of those 4 drivers wins the championship.

Any playoff driver that wins a playoff race will advance to the next round. When the cut-off races take place, we will advance the drivers who won a race in that round of the playoffs first, and then go by points after that. So for example, if a playoff driver wins playoff race #1 and then has a bad race #2 and finishes 9th or worse points, he will STILL move to the next round of the playoffs, replacing the last driver that would have made it on points.

Regarding bonus points, the regular season points champion will receive 3 bonus points in the first round and 2 bonus points in the second round. Also, each win will give a driver 3 bonus points in the first round and 2 bonus points in the second round. Bonus points for wins in the playoffs are available as well in round 1. Any driver winning in the second round of the playoffs advances to the championship race.

Bonus points are also given for points standings. In the first round of the playoffs, there will be 3 bonus points per regular season points position.
Excluding the bonus points, the regular season champion would have 30 points, the next driver would have 27 points, and so on.

FOR SEASON 56, we had 13 drivers make the Chase. The regular season points are below:
Points Position | Driver | Points Behind
1 Bob Seminara --
2 Chuck McClure -14
3 Brian Schilling -29
4 Josh Metallic -47
5 Rodney Sullins -54
6 Tim Noftsker -55
7 Joe DiSpirito -65
8 Bernie Mobbs -95
9 Richard Martin -113
9 Grant Wessley -113 (tie for 9th)
9 Milt Surratt -113 (tie for 9th)
15 Kelly Causey -123
16 Donnie Garrett -130

And after bonus points, here is how they will start the playoffs:
Bob Seminara 36 (30 for first in points plus 3 points for regular season points championship plus 3 points for one win)
Chuck McClure 30 (27 for second in points plus 3 points for one win)
Brian Schilling 24 (24 for third in points)
Josh Metallic 24 (21 for fourth in points plus 3 points for one win)
Rodney Sullins 21 (18 for fifth in points plus 3 points for one win)
Tim Noftsker 18 (15 for sixth in points plus 3 points for one win)
Joe Dispirito 15 (12 for seventh in points plus 3 points for one win)
Bernie Mobbs 9 (9 for eighth in points)
Richard Martin 9 (6 for ninth in points plus 3 points for one win)
Grant Wessley 9 (6 for ninth in points plus 3 points for one win)
Milt Surratt 6 (6 for ninth in points)
Kelly Causey 3 (3 points for one win)
Donnie Garrett 3 (3 points for one win)

When we get to the second round of the playoffs, we will again reset the points, giving 2 points per points positions and 2 points per win. The regular season champion will also have 2 bonus points for this round.

UPDATE- it was brought to our attention a driver did NOT serve a penalty for an incident they caused. The resulting post race penalty moved Milt Surratt up one position. He originally missed the playoffs by one point, but this put him into a 3-way tie for 9th in points. He will be added to the post above with the points updated as well.

We are now into the second round of the playoffs and down to 8 drivers. The points have been reset again. Instead of 3 points per position, the second round will be 2 points per position and wins. The regular season champ also gets an additional 2 points for this round.

The points below are how the first round of the playoffs ended:
1 Bob Seminara --
2 Brian Schilling -19
3 Grant Wessley -21
4 Joe DiSpirito -23
5 Chuck McClure -25
6 Rodney Sullins -27
7 Tim Noftsker -33
8 Bernie Mobbs -40
8 Josh Metallic -40 ELIMINATED
10 Richard Martin -44 ELIMINATED
11 Kelly Causey -49 ELIMINATED
12 Milt Surratt -62 ELIMINATED
13 Donnie Garrett -92 ELIMINATED

There was some confusion on whether #39 made the second round or not. The points system says the winning drivers move on to the next round, so #31 and #88 were automatically locked in. After that, we took the next 6 drivers based on points. #088 was the sixth car to make it on points, so #39 was eliminated despite being in a tie for 8th place overall.

And after bonus points, here is how they will start the second round of the playoffs:
Bob Seminara 24 (20 for first in points after Round 1 plus 2 points for regular season points championship and 2 points for one win)
Brian Schilling 18 (18 for second in points after Round)
Grant Wessley 20 (16 for third in points after Round 1 plus 4 points for two wins)
Joe DiSpirito 16 (14 for fourth in points after Round 1 plus 2 points for one win)
Chuck McClure 14 (12 for fifth in points after Round 1 plus 2 points for one win)
Rodney Sullins 12 (10 for sixth in points after Round 1 plus 2 points for one win)
Tim Noftsker 10 (8 for seventh in points after Round 1 plus 2 points for one win)
Bernie Mobbs 8 (6 for eighth in points after Round 1 plus 2 points for one win)
