TallyChallenge Playoffs - points for Season 61

Post by JoshM »

The TallyChase points have been updated. Below is an explanation:

Drivers can make the playoffs by doing either of the following:
1) Finish in the top 12 in points at the conclusion of the regular season, OR
2) Finish in the top 20 in points at the conclusion of the regular season AND win a race.

The playoffs will be 6 races. After two races, the field is cut down to 8 drivers. After four races, the field is cut down to 4 drivers. The last two races will be the championship round; the driver with the most points is the champion. If there is a tie, it will go to tiebreakers.

Any playoff driver that wins a playoff race will advance to the next round. When the cut-off races take place, we will advance the drivers who won a race in that round of the playoffs first, and then go by points after that. So for example, if a playoff driver wins playoff race #1 and then has a bad race #2 and finishes 9th or worse points, he will STILL move to the next round of the playoffs, replacing the last driver that would have made it on points.

Regarding bonus points, the regular season points champion will receive 3 bonus points in the first round and 2 bonus points in the second round. Also, each win will give a driver 3 bonus points in the first round and 2 bonus points in the second round. Bonus points for wins in the playoffs are available as well in round 1. Any driver winning in the second round of the playoffs automatically advances to the championship round.

Bonus points are also given for top 10 in the points standings. In the first round of the playoffs, there will be 3 bonus points per regular season points position.
Excluding the bonus points, the regular season champion would have 30 points, the next driver would have 27 points, and so on.

FOR SEASON 61, we had 13 drivers make the Chase. The regular season points are below:
Points Position | Driver | Points Behind
1 Joe DiSpirito -- (1 win)
2 Rodney Sullins- 68
3 Grant Wessley - 70 (2 wins)
4 Josh Metallic - 71 (1 win)
5 Chuck McClure - 76 (1 win)
6 Bob Seminara - 77
7 Jeremy Jeffries - 80
8 Gregg Palmer - 85 (1 win)
9 Brian Schilling - 87
10 Marc Paglia - 89
11 Kelly Causey - 108
12 JT Mayhew - 113
16 Tim Noftsker - 130 (1 win)

And after bonus points, here is how they will start the playoffs:
1 Joe DiSpirito - 36 (30 for first in points; 3 points for regular season points championship; 3 points for one win)
2 Rodney Sullins - 27 (27 for second in points)
3 Grant Wessley - 30 (24 for third in points; 6 points for two wins)
4 Josh Metallic 24 (21 for fourth in points; 3 points for one win)
5 Chuck McClure 21 (18 for fifth in points; 3 points for one win)
6 Bob Seminara 15 (15 for sixth in points)
7 Jeremy Jeffries 12 (12 for seventh in points)
8 Gregg Palmer 12 (9 for eighth in points; 3 points for one win)
9 Brian Schilling 6 (6 for ninth in points)
10 Marc Paglia 3 (3 tied for tenth in points)
11Kelly Causey 0 (0 for eleventh in points)
12 JT Mayhew 0 (0 for twelfth in points)
13 Tim Noftsker 3 (0 for sixteenth in points; 3 points for one win)

When we get to the second round of the playoffs, we will again reset the points, giving 2 points per points positions and 2 points per win. The regular season champion will also have 2 bonus points for this round.

We are now into the second round of the playoffs and down to 8 drivers. The points have been reset again. Instead of 3 points per position, the second round will be 2 points per position and wins. The regular season champ also gets an additional 2 points for this round.

The points below are how the first round of the playoffs ended:
1 Joe DiSpirito -- Won Playoff Race #1
2 Chuck McClure -6
3 Rodney Sullins -12
4 Jeremy Jeffries -13
5 Brian Schilling -18
6 Bob Seminara -21
7 Grant Wessley -24
8 Gregg Palmer -32 ELIMINATED because a lower seed won their way in
9 JT Mayhew -37 ELIMINATED
10 Josh Metallic -47 ELIMINATED
11 Kelly Causey -48 Moves on due to winning Playoff Race #2
12 Marc Paglia -52 ELIMINATED
13 Tim Noftsker -69 ELIMINATED

And after bonus points, here is how they will start the second round of the playoffs:

The points have been reset for the Championship round of the TallyChase. The following drivers advanced:

Chuck McClure
Joe DiSpirito
Jeremy Jeffries
Brian Schilling

There are NO bonus points to start this round; all drivers will begin with the same amount of points. The champion will be the driver who earns the most points after these final two races. Also, there will only be ONE champion, so in the event of a tie, the champion will be decided per the RTG tie breaker rules:

First tie breaker - total wins
Second tie breaker - total Top 5 finishes
Third tie breaker - total Top 10 finishes
Fourth tie breaker - total 2nd place finishes, 3rd place finishes, etc until tie is broken.
